The better Google Chrome: Iron respects your privacy!

Soon after Google released the new Chrome Browser, I installed and tested it, and I really liked the speed of the browser and the concept of handling each individual tab as a sandbox. But I got concerned about my privacy, so I stopped using Chrome a few days later.
Now I found a Chrome based browser which respects the privacy. It is called Iron. Read here what they say about there release regarding privacy:

Pictomio - just wicked and a lot better then Picasa

A few weeks ago I applied to be a beta tester of the new Pictomio PictioGeo Addon and software. Luckily, I was chosen and after paying 50 Euros a few days later I received a package containing a Bluetooth GPS tracker and a license Key to enable the Pictomio PictoGeo Addon.

I have to admit that until now I was not able to test the Geo Logger, as my camera broke recently and so I had to buy a new camera (Canon EOS 1000d). So I hope I get this camera asap to get my hands on the PictoGeo as well.
In the meantime, I have sorted all my pictures (especially the one from my travels in Australia) and used some really wicked features of Pictomio. Here are some really great things I love about this software:

Ability to add EXIF geo position to a photo using either GoogleMaps or Microsoft Earth
Ability to upload photos to different photo sharing sites, including flickr, facebook, picasaweb, locr, photobucket
Image rating
Automatically rotation of images according to EXIF data
EXIF data editing (if you really need this…)
Ability to view photos on Google Maps or Microsoft Earth and if using PictoGeo ability to view an entire trip
Carousel image view
Image tagging

So, that’s it for the moment. As soon as I get to use the GeoLogger, I will post an update.

[SOLUTION] iphone with FW 2.1 won’t start any app installed by AppStore

After successfully updating to firmware 2.1 using a custom firmware downloaded from ispazio.net, I started to install applications from Appstore and soon afterwards I installed the most important applications from Cydia: AppBackup, AptBackup and biteSMS.

Before installing any app from Cydia, all apps from AppStore (Spore, BrainChall) started up with no problems, but soon after installing biteSMS, NO app from AppStore wanted to start up anymore. They just crashed 2 seconds after starting.

So, biteSMS must be the app which blocks any other app. A short look at the bitsms forum (http://forums.bitesms.com/forums) revealed that I was right: Kimcha wrote in a post about that. He also posted a solution, which didn’t work for me, but if anyone wants to have a go follow this 2 steps:

1. SSH into your iphone (using putty)
2.

plutil -c xml1 /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.SpringBoard.plist
vim /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.SpringBoard.plist

3. remove ”/var/mobile/Library/biteSMS/biteSMSsb.dylib:” from DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES’s .
4 reboot

As I wrote already, this didn’t work for me, so I did remove biteSMS. The guys over at biteSMS promised a updated for tomorrow, monday!

Actually I have made it to get biteSMS to work!!!!
Here the steps you have to do:
1. Get Erica Saduns iphone utils here: http://ericasadun.com/ftp/EricaUtilities/EricaUtilitiesBeta-13.zip
2. Copy plutil to your iphone “usr/bin” folder using WinSCP
3. Using putty, SSH into your iphone, and chmod plutils to 755:

cd /usr/bin
chmod 755 plutil

4. Then execute

ldid -S plutil

5. Then execute

plutil -c xml1 /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.SpringBoard.plist

6. Then remove ”/var/mobile/Library/biteSMS/biteSMSsb.dylib:” from DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES’s .
7. Then reboot your iphone

You have to register to download images. Photos are all high quality, and if you decide to publish your photos on freerangestock you get a part of the ad revenue!

No registration, good photo quality, and a nice category system. Easy to find images what you are looking for.

Some really stunning insect images, not very much of them, but definitely worth a look.

Some really nice stock photos, but not very often updated.

A sort of community, there is no need of registration for downloading photos, but if you want to upload them. Quiet good quality images.

A really interesting concept: Actually, they ask you which images you want, and then they start a sort of a contest asking people to upload images to the gallery. Definitely worth a look!

Often updated, some really really stunning photos, together with sxc my favourite free stock photo site.

Some good photos, but nearly one year ago since the last update.

A bautiful site, really stunning photos, a vibrant community, often updated. A great site.

A great place to find high quality stock photos, all photos are reviewed before published, to download photos in high quality you have to register for free. Probably my favourite.

On unprofound you search images by colour, some great photos, updated regullarly.

Easy way to get new ringtones for your iphone for free

There are many softwares out on the market to create ringtones. Most of them are difficult to use, and then they can not create the ringtones for the iphone directly and you have to convert them first.
The easy way to create and/or download new ringtones is to go to audiko.net. Either you can use the search function on the homepage and download the ringtone directly (you can download it in mp3-format or directly as a m4r-ringtone for use with the iphone). There are already loads of ringtones available, all created by other users, and before downloading, it is possible to listen to them.

However, to create a ringtone from a mp3-file, just follow this easy steps:

Choose your song and upload it (takes about 2-4 minutes, depends on your bandwidth)
Once uploaded, use the flash interface to choose the part of the song which should become your ringtone.
Click on “Create Ringtone” to start creating ringtone
Input the songs name, once done, you can download it either as a mp3 or m4r

That’s it! Easy, no?

Amazing new premium wordpress themes club

A few days ago I came across an amazing new site where you can get prmium themes for really low money. First I thought everything is a joke, but I monitored the site for a few days and saw that the guy over there keeps adding new themes so I thought I should check it out.
The sites name is “Elegant wordpress themes“, click here to get there. Different to other sites, you don’t have to pay for each theme, but you subscribe for a one year and all themes released you can use on your website. The price is ridicously low: 19.95US$. I suggest you to sign up early, because I think this guy will increase the price as he gets more and more subscription and so he might increase yearly subsription fee as well.

After migrating from a dedicated server to my new hosting over at www.mediatemple.net, I was looking for a easy to use but yet powerful tool to migrate my existing databases from my former host to the new one.
I was browsing the web, when I run over a tool called heidiSQL. I had a look at their webpage, and the tool looked very promising. I downloaded the latest version, and was surprised how easy and straight-forwarded it is to use. Especially the data restore worked very well. So if you’re looking for such a tool, grab your copy!

According to the guys over at ispazio.net, the new iphone 3G (with GPS antenna and UMTS module) costs less then 100US$ to produce to Apple.
Therefore a sale price set at 199US$ would be fair, but you will get this price only with a new 2 years contract…
Crazy, imagine how much many the guys over at apple make….

problems sending emails using yahoo’s smtp server

I used yahoo’s smtp server (smtp.mail.yahoo.it) a long time for sending mails through Thunderbird, but recently it stopped working. I always received error messages that my mail was not relayed, but didn’t get a specific error code.
So, after looking around for a long time, I had to change my smt configuratin to the following:

smtp server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Port: 465
Secure Connection: SSL
Username: Userid without @yahoo.it

And this works again.

After trying to setup postgrey, I had a lot of warning messages in my mail.log file like this:

root@gandalf:/var/spool/postfix# chgrp -R postdrop /var/spool/postfix/public
root@gandalf:/var/spool/postfix# chgrp -R postdrop /var/spool/postfix/maildrop/
root@gandalf:/var/spool/postfix# postfix check
root@gandalf:/var/spool/postfix# postfix reload
