[SOLUTION] Problem with battery life and overheating after upgrading iPhone OS to version 3.0

After updating my iPhone Firmware from version 2.2.1 to version 3.0, I got big problems with the battery life and when I plugged in the charger the iphone became really hot and I thought it will melt away.
I was looking on google and found that I was not the only one to have this behavior since updating to OS 3.0. The problem for everyone seemed to be the same:

short battery life
iphone becomes very warm
it takes ages to charge the battery

The problem is the new (or changed) “Push” Mail setting. After switching this service off, restarting the iphone the problem was fixed. I hope this might be useful to someone having the same problem, drop a line if this fix worked for you as well.

[SOLUTION] iphone with FW 2.1 won’t start any app installed by AppStore

After successfully updating to firmware 2.1 using a custom firmware downloaded from ispazio.net, I started to install applications from Appstore and soon afterwards I installed the most important applications from Cydia: AppBackup, AptBackup and biteSMS.

Before installing any app from Cydia, all apps from AppStore (Spore, BrainChall) started up with no problems, but soon after installing biteSMS, NO app from AppStore wanted to start up anymore. They just crashed 2 seconds after starting.

So, biteSMS must be the app which blocks any other app. A short look at the bitsms forum (http://forums.bitesms.com/forums) revealed that I was right: Kimcha wrote in a post about that. He also posted a solution, which didn’t work for me, but if anyone wants to have a go follow this 2 steps:

1. SSH into your iphone (using putty)
2.

plutil -c xml1 /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.SpringBoard.plist
vim /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.SpringBoard.plist

3. remove â€/var/mobile/Library/biteSMS/biteSMSsb.dylib:â€ from DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIESâ€™s .
4 reboot

As I wrote already, this didn’t work for me, so I did remove biteSMS. The guys over at biteSMS promised a updated for tomorrow, monday!

Actually I have made it to get biteSMS to work!!!!
Here the steps you have to do:
1. Get Erica Saduns iphone utils here: http://ericasadun.com/ftp/EricaUtilities/EricaUtilitiesBeta-13.zip
2. Copy plutil to your iphone “usr/bin” folder using WinSCP
3. Using putty, SSH into your iphone, and chmod plutils to 755:

cd /usr/bin
chmod 755 plutil

4. Then execute

ldid -S plutil

5. Then execute

plutil -c xml1 /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.SpringBoard.plist

6. Then remove â€/var/mobile/Library/biteSMS/biteSMSsb.dylib:â€ from DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIESâ€™s .
7. Then reboot your iphone

There are many softwares out on the market to create ringtones. Most of them are difficult to use, and then they can not create the ringtones for the iphone directly and you have to convert them first.
The easy way to create and/or download new ringtones is to go to audiko.net. Either you can use the search function on the homepage and download the ringtone directly (you can download it in mp3-format or directly as a m4r-ringtone for use with the iphone). There are already loads of ringtones available, all created by other users, and before downloading, it is possible to listen to them.

However, to create a ringtone from a mp3-file, just follow this easy steps:

Choose your song and upload it (takes about 2-4 minutes, depends on your bandwidth)
Once uploaded, use the flash interface to choose the part of the song which should become your ringtone.
Click on “Create Ringtone” to start creating ringtone
Input the songs name, once done, you can download it either as a mp3 or m4r

That’s it! Easy, no?

The new iPhone 3G to cost less then 100US$ to Apple?

According to the guys over at ispazio.net, the new iphone 3G (with GPS antenna and UMTS module) costs less then 100US$ to produce to Apple.
Therefore a sale price set at 199US$ would be fair, but you will get this price only with a new 2 years contract…
Crazy, imagine how much many the guys over at apple make….
